Out of all the decisions that parents have to make about baby gear, choosing a car seat is undoubtedly one of the most important. When I was pregnant with my first child I was confused about car seats since, after hopping on Craigslist, it appeared that tons of new and even very old car seats were for sale. So why not just buy a really cheap one on Craigslist to save some money? Saving money is good. Turns out, there are many important reasons why buying a new, quality car seat is important.
That being said, Safety 1st, a leading car seat brand, is known for an unwavering commitment to child safety, innovation, quality and value. The latest addition to their car seat family is the Safety 1st onBoard35 Air+, the first car seat with Air Protect + technology. Air Protect + combines the advanced protection of the Air Protect® cushion system with patented GCell HX™ foam designed with hexagonal shapes for superior protection around the torso. TOGETHER they provide full body side impact protection.
Comes in a variety of colors/patterns:
The onBoard 35 Air + arrived in a large box, fully assembled. The box has since become my son’s favorite toy, but that’s another story…
The first thing I noticed about this car seat was how comfortable it looked! Can I get one in my size please?! Everything appeared plush and padded. The infant insert looked especially snug and cozy.
I currently have a seven week old baby girl who has not been a fan of her current car seat. So putting her into the onBoard 35 Air + would be the ultimate test. To my surprise, the onBoard 35 Air + seemed to provide a much better fit for her and as a result, car trips have been much more enjoyable now that she seems more comfortable. The other car seat we had been using had a much smaller, less padded infant insert. The onBoard 35 Air +one seemed to give her the same security she feels when being held since the insert was much more encompassing. Safety 1st for the win!
The onBoard 35 Air + is designed to keep children between 4-35 pounds safer in the car. Over the past 20 years, the number of deaths related to front impact crashes has declined, while side impact crash fatalities have increased. Air Protect Side Impact Protection protects our children at their most vulnerable – the head.
The onBoard 35 Air + comes with a 5-point harness with up front adjustment. I especially like the little pocket thing that keeps the buckle forward so that you don’t have to fish for the buckle underneath your baby’s bottom. This is truly an excellent feature. The 4 harness heights and 3 buckle locations accommodate your growing child up to the 35 pound weight limit.
This car seat is LATCH equipped with an adjustable stay-in-car base with LATCH storage.
The Base Belt Lock-Off easily secures the vehicle’s seat belt across the base if stay-in-car base is not being used.
The position gauge on the side of the car set ensures proper installation positioning.
Carry Curve™ Handle features ergonomic design. The center of the handle is covered in a comfortable rubber grip that keeps the handle from slipping while being carried.
There’s a space to store the instructional booklet on the bottom of the car seat – brilliant for parents like me who would otherwise lose it despite my best intentions to store it somewhere safe and accessible.
The onBoard 35 Air + meets or exceeds Federal and ASTM Safety Standards. The car seat itself weighs 20 pounds (not including stay-in-car base).
Overall, I have been extremely happy with the onBoard 35 Air + infant car seat. It is as safe as they come and provides baby with a more comfortable environment for travel than other comparable car seats provide. If you’re looking for a great gift idea this holiday season for a new parent in your life…I’d recommend checking this car seat out!
