Once my second child started eating solids I began to realize just how much of an adventure it is to just keep my kids fed. Prepare food, clean up, wash dishes, put away dishes, then repeat many times per day. It’s a lot messier than I would often like it to be so I appreciate any products that help make mealtimes more enjoyable for everyone.
I was thrilled when I learned I would have the chance to review the Contours Twist seat because of it’s functionality and because I loved the bright, modern design. This seat is made to grow with your child from being an infant floor seat to being a big kid booster for at the table. It also rotates 180° to five different positions.
When the seat arrived it was already fully assembled (plus!). It wasn’t bulky and was light enough to move around with one hand.
I really liked the design as a floor seat. The foam insert is nice and soft and easy to wipe clean (hooray!) and the tray is nice for setting a toy in front of the baby. I especially liked the high back on the chair which gives lots of support and keeps the little ones from wobbling. Structurally it is a very sturdy seat and has no chance of tipping over while your child is in it, unlike some other floor seats I’ve seen. The leg openings are also nice and wide so those chunky baby thighs wont get stuck.
As a booster, this seat was very versatile. Once my child outgrows the foam insert it can be removed so she can keep using the seat for longer. The foam and plastic are very easy to clean, which is of course a must with messy children! I especially appreciated the 3-point restraint. When my child is sitting up in a chair I want to know that they are secure.
The ability for the seat to twist is something I had never seen before in a booster. To twist the seat you simply pull the colored lever on the back of the seat and twist it until it locks into the next position. There’s a loud “clicking” sound as it does this so you know it happened. The twist feature is handy because once your child is in the seat it’s not very safe, or practical, to try and lift it up while they’re in it. So the ability to twist the seat is a great feature for on the floor and up at the table. When it was time to wipe my daughters face to clean her up it was useful to just twist the seat instead of having to move the whole chair.
I liked that the Contours Twist put my daughter at just the right height at the table. In the picture above she is still using the foam insert, so once that was removed a taller child would still sit at a nice height.
One thing that was difficult for me at first was taking the tray on and off. Once it is on and secure it makes a “clicking” sound so that you know it’s locked into place, but I wished it could be done with only one hand. After squeezing the lever at the front of the tray you need to use both hands to take the tray off. However, I think this is common for most booster seats as far as I know. After doing it a few times I became familiar with the motion and it became easier.
Overall this is a great, versatile booster seat! With the Contours Twist you would have no need for a Bumbo or other floor seat. The less baby gear to store, the better!
