Finding the time and motivation to work out is difficult for the best of us; as a busy mom it can be almost impossible (I said almost). It’s time to stop with the excuses, here are 6 tips to help you stick to that workout schedule!
Forget Finding Time, Make Time
With a busy schedule and a to-do list as long as your arm it’s no wonder you feel like there’s no time to work out, but there almost ALWAYS is. The trick is to find places you can steal that time from, like the breaks you’ll spend browsing Pinterest or Facebook. They add up and if you can stick them all together there’s at least a HIIT workout waiting for you. Alternatively, steal a little bit of time from your sleep. Wake up early, squeeze in a run or an at home work out and you’ll be done before the kids are even awake!
Earlier is the New Later
If you think you’re going to work out when you get home from work or have picked the kids up from school, you’re probably wrong. Something will come up and you actually WILL run out of time. Try to get your workout in before midday and you’ll feel totally on top of everything!
Failing to Prepare is Preparing to Fail
Half the battle is finding time, the other half is deciding what to do, what to wear, and where to do it. Take the stress out by planning your workout in advance and laying out your gym kit the night before – sleep in them if you must! Anything to make your life that bit easier. Be the Mom of Multitasking!
Let’s be honest, sometimes family life can be so hectic that you can barely find time to go to the bathroom in peace, let alone fit in a workout. Get creative and turn your everyday tasks in to exercise. Whether that’s running with the stroller to and from day care or doing 2 minutes of squats whilst you brush your teeth – every little helps!
Get Support from Your Teammates
By teammates I obviously mean the family. Many is stronger than few and this applies to your workout schedule too. Make mom time stress free by getting dad to take care of the kids for an hour or turn exercise in to a family occasion. Get out on the bikes at the weekend, host your own front room classes with the kids or simply use the time they’re at soccer training to put in some training of your own.
Don’t beat yourself up
At the end of the day, don’t put yourself down if you haven’t achieved what you wanted to. Real results take time and anything is better than nothing. If you’re managing to fit in any exercise around your busy schedule you should feel proud – you’re outdoing most!
