I am a wife to the man of my dreams! We've been married for nearly three years now and I couldn't imagine my life without him in it! I am also a mom to a seven month old daughter who I absolutely adore! I love the Lord with all my heart...without Him in my life I would not be where I am today! I am enjoying the balancing act of being a stay at home mom and wife and, together with my husband, am enjoying our wonderfully blessed life!!

A Baby's Personality

As Kaelyn gets older, we are beginning to see more and more of what her personality is like. It's really neat to watch as it unfolds! For instance, she's very active and curious. She's always on the go and wanting to explore everything around her. She tends to get frustrated when she tries to do something new, like stand up, and is unable to for one reason or another. Although active in her own familiar territory, in public it's another story! She's often very reserved and almost shy. She shows a bit of stranger anxiety at times and likes to know where mom or dad are at all times! As she has begun to crawl and get into things, she has heard the word "no" a number of times when touching something that she is not supposed to. When she hears the word no and is redirected, she sticks out her bottom lip and gives a very sad cry. Her feelings get hurt very easily, which tells me she will be a soft-hearted little girl. She's such a sweetie and we're enjoying watching as her little personality presents itself! Labels: Children, Home, Motherhood, Parenting
Three Year Anniversary

Today is a very happy day for Scott and I...we are celebrating our 3rd wedding anniversary! I can't believe it's already been that long...time sure does fly when you're having fun! I know that's what everyone says...but it's so true! I am so blessed to have someone like Scott as my husband. He's the most generous, loving, and sweet man I know! Our lives have changed so much over the past three years of our marriage...and it keeps getting better! We're both done with college, Scott has a good job, we've bought our first home, and had our first baby! The Lord has truly blessed us, and we're so looking forward to the blessings He has in store for us as the years continue to go by!!
Usually Scott and I just get each other a card on our Anniversary and most times go out for supper or to a movie or something. This year, having Kaelyn, we'll probably just stay home and relax. We have lots of movies that we haven't watched yet...so that may be an idea as well. Since we typically give cards, I was surprised to wake up and find that Scott had bought me a little gift along with his card. He knows how much I love Willow Angels, so he got me the big "promise" one with the couple who is dancing. It was so sweet of him...he is the best!!
Baby Noises

No matter what time of day, or where we're at...Kaelyn is always entertaining us with her wonderful little personality! It's so fun to see her personality coming through more and more...she's such a neat little girl!! This weekend she was very happy...and definitely was enjoying making noises and listening to her voice. We've noticed so many changes lately when it comes to the noises she makes. If we say something, especially something that starts with a D, B, or P...she beings saying that letter...like babababa, or papapapa! It's so neat. She was doing that this weekend a lot, but also was squealing and really enjoying herself which was beyond cute! :) My brother was visiting and enjoyed her squealing and noises so much that he caught her on video with his phone. Great 6 Month Pics

I was so excited to find out that Kaelyn's 6 month pictures came in a week early. We went to get them yesterday and they turned out great! There are 7 different poses, and we got lots of prints of each one!! We always like to get enough for family to choose from. The Grandparents especially enjoy this! I knew that all 7 turned out pretty good, but I didn't know I'd like all of them as much as I do. It's going to be a hard decision to decide which ones to hang in the frames I have her 3 month pictures in right now. I may just have to buy more frames so I can hang all of them ;) We'll have to see...I'm just glad we got a lot of good ones to choose from. Labels: Children, Family, Motherhood, Parenting
Picking up these pictures yesterday did get me thinking about how quickly time goes though. we got these pictures taken when she was 6 months old, and now she is nearly 7 1/2 months old...where does the time go!?
A Beautiful Wednesday

I was ready for warmer weather, and today I got it!! I didn't even realize how beautiful it was outside until Kaelyn and I headed over to Walmart to pick up her 6 month pictures that came in today. We stepped outside and I realized what a nice day it would have been to spend more time outdoors. By that time in the afternoon, it was already getting close to her nap so we couldn't stay out long. However, I did learn a very important lesson....to always step outside, even if looking out the window it doesn't look the warmest or nicest out. If I would have done that this morning I would have realized how beautiful it was and spent more time with Kaelyn at the park or on a walk. Oh well...there's always tomorrow. The Beauty of God's Creation

This is probably one of my favorite times of year. As I type, I look out the window and can enjoy the blue sky, the green grass, the birds chirping and the trees and flowers starting to bloom. Isn't God's creation magnificent?! It is beautiful! I think Spring is my favorite season out of the four, mainly because the temperatures are pleasant and it's easy to go outdoors without putting on layers and layers of clothing...at least here where I live anyways. I don't often get a moment just to sit down and enjoy the little things like this...as my days are pretty full and busy. However, I encourage everyone, especially busy parents, to take a minute and relax...soak in the beauty of God's creation. It's a refreshing feeling and important to do this once in a while.
The Joys of Motherhhood

Isn't it fun to watch a baby learn to do new things?! This is one of my favorite things to do, and it seems like a daily occurrence with Kaelyn these days. Whether it's learning to get up on her hands and knees or taking her first bite of cereal, it's the greatest thing in the world!! As I've recently written, Kaelyn is getting so close to crawling! She's so cute as she moves around the floor and rocks once she gets up on her hands and knees. She's also been using her voice a lot more now. Before she would just coo, but now she "jabbers" all day long!! It's so fun to sit with her and talk. She's such a happy baby, and a couple of days ago she began squealing a lot too. It's adorable. Lessons in Motherhood: 5

Every now and then I enjoy sharing the lessons that I am continuing to learn in motherhood. Being a new mom, everything is...well...new to me. There are so many things that I have learned and continue to learn each and every day. One thing, which may seem like a "duh" statement to some is the importance of making sure to always have the video camera and digital camera next to me at all time...and making sure that their fully charged as well!
When possible, I am always making sure to try and catch everything on film. This is something that I have wanted to do from the beginning, but as Kaelyn learns to do more and more, it seems even more necessary to have it by my side at all times! It seems that one minute Kaelyn will be on the floor playing with her toys....and in the blink of an eye she is off learning to do something new. Recently that "something" was getting up on her hands and knees. Scott and I knew that this time would come sooner than later, as Kaelyn is a very curious little girl...always wanting to discover the environment around her. She has been scooting around and moving every which way except for forwards for a couple of months now. Soon, she will be moving in that direction though....as getting up on her hands and knees is a very good indication that crawling will be next. It was so cute to watch her as she did this for the firs time. It took so much effort for her to get to that point, and once she did her little face shined and she looked so proud of herself. I'm sure it helped that Scott and I were cheering and clapping...saying "YYEEAAHH Kaelyn!!":) I suppose you could see we're very proud parents!! ;)
Growing Fast

Ever since Kaelyn was born, people have been telling us that she will grow up fast! I remember my parents telling me that other people had told them the same when we were little. I guess it's not something you completely understand until you have children of your own. Now, I completely understand what everyone has been saying....she has grown so much right before our eyes. She has really been changing a lot! She's doing so many new things, like rolling over, cooing, sitting, etc. It's so fun to watch, and remarkable that only 4 1/2 months ago she was just a newborn. It's really hard to imagine, but in only a few short years she'll be in school. We cherish each and every moment, because she's only a little girl for such a short period of time...what a blessing she is to our lives!!
Father's Day

I was just thinking about Father's Day this year and how it will be the first year that Scott will be celebrating it. He's such a great dad and I'd love to find him something really special. I know he could really use a new watch and I think I have found the perfect Patek Nautilus. It's perfect for the style that he enjoys wearing and I think that he would really enjoy something like this. I know it's a ways off...but I'm the type of person who enjoys planning a head. I'll keep looking, but I think this could be the one. Labels: Parenting
Life Insurance

Now that we have a baby, we have talked an awful lot about life insurance. life insurance quotes are something that we've looked into and gotten a lot of because we feel it's important to make sure that we're taken care of and our daughter is taken care of. It's not something we had discussed much before the birth of Kaelyn...but after having her it was definitely something that was very important to us. It's amazing how life changes and having a baby makes you think about things like that and encourages you to take things more seriously.
Baby Milestones

One of the greatest things in life is seeing the changes our children make...especially when they're in those first few years of life and learning more than they ever will again. Scott and I constantly find ourselves amazed at all our little girl is doing!! It's funny how the littlest things have us running for the video camera lately. Recently, Kaelyn let out her first official baby laugh!! She had giggled in the past, but this was a true laugh that made our hearts just melt. She has laughed a number of times since then, but we haven't yet gotten it on tape. One thing I have learned is to keep the video camera near me at all time! Babies learn to do things so quickly...and she's changing right before our eyes. She has brought so much joy to our lives...we are truly blessed!
Life Insurance For Children

Before Scott and I had Kaelyn we never really thought about having Life Insurance for our children. It wasn't until recently that we began thinking about more seriously. His step-mom recently became involved in the insurance business, and has shared her knowledge of the different life insurance policies available and why they're so important to have. Scott and I already have life insurance for ourselves, but it sounds like his dad and step mom are planning on getting all of the grandchildren their own policies before the age of 5. It's interesting how life changes after you have children and you begin thinking about things like this much more seriously!
Great TV Show For Moms

Does anyone else watch the show Jon and Kate Plus 8? It's a show that my husband and I began watching last season, and one that we really enjoy every Monday at 8:00. Now, being a mother besides, it's fun and interesting to see how a mother manages to take care of and raise 8 children. From what I can tell, she does a very good job. It seems that her organization is what keeps her family running fairly smoothly, and what keeps her sane. I keep telling Scott that having one baby is hard enough. I mean, can you imagine having 6 at one time and trying to know what they want and need when they're that little?!! Wow! I'm sure there are some things that get more difficult as they get older, and some things that get a little easier...I definitely give her credit though! Plastic Baby Bottles Contain Toxic Chemical....Is Your Baby At Risk?

It seems that these days we must research everything before using it, especially when it comes to the products that we use with our precious little ones. Up until now I have only breastfed my little girl...no bottles at all. I know at some point I may have the need for a bottle though, so today I began researching to find the best brand and kind to use. As I did some digging online, it came to my attention that there are some very interesting studies being done on the safety, or lack there of, when it comes to 95% of the plastic baby bottles that people use. Are you curious as to what I might be referring to?
It's been found that many popular brands of plastic baby bottles leak BPA when heated. This is a toxic chemical that is used to make the plastic. Everything I have read links BPA to things like obesity, certain cancers, diabetes and more. This is a chemical that is not healthy for any of us, but especially infants and children. There are many people switching from plastic bottles to glass bottles....a choice I'm strongly considering and one I urge you to think about as well.
Make Your Own Baby Food

The last time Kaelyn had a Drs Appointment, her Pediatrician was talking with me about some of the stages she will go through, specifically that of teething, and the time line of when she will begin eating cereals and baby foods. Over these past couple of months I've been thinking about it a lot, and when it is ready to eat baby foods, I am planning on making it myself. Not only is this economically a smart decision for us, but, more importantly, I feel that it will be healthy and nutritious for her as well. It will take a little extra time, but will be SO worth it in my opinion.
From the information I've found on this subject so far, I've learned many useful tips. It's important to make sure that I have the right equipment, such as a blender for instance. It's also important that pick the best produce and know how to handle and prepare the food correctly. Also, what I've learned is so great about making her baby food is that I can actually freeze it in ice cube trays, which will last for quite a while.
Curiosity of a Child

As I was sitting on my computer today watching my little girl play on her playmat, I began thinking about all the changes I've noticed in her just in the past month. People say that you kids will grow up quickly, but I never knew how literal this comment was until having a child of my own. Kaelyn is only 4 months old, but already I can't believe how quickly the time has gone by! There a few big things that I've noticed in watching her over the past few weeks.... 1)She seems much more interested in the food that we're eating. She'll sit there and watch us eat.
2)She has begun to roll over onto her side from her back. Along with that comes the wiggling around in her crib. We'll lay her down one direction at night, and the next morning we'll find her facing completely the other direction. She likes to wiggle around to play with everything in arms reach.
3)She's found her feet. One day she was sitting in her bouncy seat, when all of the sudden I saw the light go on as she moved them and tried to grab them....her curiosity is so cute!
4)Finally, she's begun watching people talk to her. As we talk to her, she moves her lips and sometimes tries to imitate some of the sounds that we make.
I guess over all you could say that much of what I noticed over the past month is an increase in the curiosity that she has for everything going on around her. It's so much fun to watch. Each month I look forward to witnessing more of the things that she begins to do....I wonder what next month will bring?! I can't wait to find out.
The Mommy Store

Recently I got to thinking how nice it would be to go to a site like Amazon and only have the products and categories that I shop in available to me. I thought this would be great, because I often do not have much time while shopping online and can't spend those short periods of time while Kaelyn naps, searching through hundreds of products that I have no interest in buying. I finally came to the conclusion that I would compile the products and categories that I love most into one store, Mommy Must-Haves! Here is where you'll find everything from toys, baby products and children's books, to books on families and products dealing with health. Check it out if you're like me and on the go constantly.
